In light of the prevalent protests surrounding the racial injustices and racism in our country, we all have felt a pressing need to help change our discriminatory systems, to stand up, to not be silent, and to share our support in the diverse ways we are able. Please read below as a preface to a new blog series I will be starting; it is one of the ways I feel urged to help.
"i am not addressing this to be trendy. i am not addressing this to gain followers or gain your support. i am not addressing this for selective or performative activism. i am not addressing this because i feel like i have to from pressure from others or because it’s what everyone else is doing.
•
i am addressing this because it MATTERS to me, to the world, and it needs to be shouted from the rooftops, said on all platforms, and discussed from everyone’s unique perspective. i am addressing this because my heart is heavy, torn, and angry and because i want to do something about the inherit cultural racism and bias we undeniably have. i am addressing this because it is ingrained in my daily life with my adopted brown sister and the complexity that creates as far as my role in being her family.

i will be publishing a collection of poems and thoughts i have written this past month throughout all of the recent injustices and light shed on discrimination, racism, and bias on my blog. they are addressed to my little sister and also to the world on these heavy, deep, and complex topics. these words are from my heart and are vulnerable, and it’s one of my ways of speaking out and doing my part to be anti-racist and be an ally.

this is certainly deeper and more serious than the typical topics i would discuss and probably not perceived as my “wheelhouse” for blogging or “right” for my platform, but silence on this is not the answer. my honesty and transparency about my feelings and experience are essential for me to share with you because i must show you the full picture. this is such a vital piece to my heart and life and career i will be pursuing, that i would be lying or be inauthentic if i didn’t share it. additionally, we must use our platforms for a purpose, to be a voice for those whose voices have long gone unheard and to fight for justice for those who no longer are able to do so for themselves. let us stand together, in our own unique ways, to change a system that has been oppression-ridden for far far too long (and which never even should have been in the first place)."
Black lives matter. I see you, I hear you, and I will fight with you and for you.
With the utmost care and respect,
