Hello everybody! I’m so excited you’re reading this post because it’s something I have been formulating for quite some time. I really wanted it to be gender & age neutral as well as to have some religious & non-religious elements so it could be for EVERYONE. Okay you’re probably like “Okay Caroline I got that, but what is this post all about anyway??” This is just a compilation of all the things I have learned & am still learning throughout the journey of learning to love my body. These points have made a significant difference in my life as far as accepting my body and having peace with it, so I hope they can help you too. Now my one starter point before this whole post is to say that YOU ARE ALWAYS ENOUGH in all ways!! I hope you can believe that and see that for yourself because as much as I want to yell it from the mountaintops or megaphone that into your ear every time you look in the mirror or hug you and tell you to your face to make you believe it…. I can’t—so, this is the next best thing, and it will have to do.
Knowing Triggers:
-What are the things you do/think/eat/see that promote negative body thoughts? When/where do you start to get down on yourself? AVOID, CORRECT, & BE AWARE OF THEM.
For example, late at night I always feel more negative and harsh toward my body, so in response to that, I am aware of that negative, false voice, and I don’t let it consume me or drive unhealthy, unnecessary actions. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
As with anything, focus on the good:
-When negative feelings come, counteract them with 3 things you love about yourself. When you feel like you “haven’t been that healthy lately,” counteract that by focusing on all the things you ARE doing. As Rachel Hollis (an amazing christian author & social media figure) would say, those defamatory thoughts are lies, and we have to recognize them & defeat them. LET THE TRUTH/POSITIVITY BE LOUDER!!
Your body is an essential vehicle that needs good fuel to run:
-Through our minds and bodies, we carry out our (God-given) purpose. What we put in it (any thoughts, food, and exercise) is what we will put out in the world, and it directly/indirectly impacts our ability to carry out our purpose. For example, if we eat little, workout too much, and tell ourselves awful things, what we put out in the world will be impacted negatively; we will be moody, have no energy, and be internally focused. All of that then impacts our ability to accomplish our purpose. Feed and fuel your body with goodness and with what it needs to help you be your best. YOU CAN’T ACCOMPLISH YOUR PURPOSE WITHOUT PROPER FUEL!!
You are a masterpiece, and your body is a temple:
Your body is a creation designed by God, a God who doesn’t make mistakes and a God who knew you before you took your first breath—you’re a masterpiece with the Creator of Life’s signature on YOU!! What an honor is that!! AND on top of all that wonderfulness, God truly believes your body is a temple, sacred, and holy, so we must treat, love, and care for like it is. If you feed your body with healthiness & positivity by valuing it the way God does, then I promise your perspective will be revolutionized. KNOW YOUR IDENTITY & WHERE YOUR BODY IS FROM & IT WILL CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE!! Or in other words, know who you are and WHOSE you are.
Own what you got!!:
There are some things we can’t change or remove or edit about our bodies, from freckles to hair type to height to shoe size, so my challenge to you is to OWN them. Every part of you is what makes you so beautifully unique—not a SINGLE person on this planet is like you... So own it! Not to mention, you have this ONE body for the rest of your life, and you only get one chance to be in it—the time is NOW to celebrate it.
One of my favorite Instagrammers who owns it is Joyjah; she has stunning freckles and isn’t afraid to show them to the world and be herself. Don’t be ashamed, don’t hide, and don’t ever use “should/could/if”—this is the wonderful body, uniqueness, and quirks you have been given, so EMBRACE IT!!
Our bodies are a gift:
Think of all the amazing things your body does for you on a daily basis. From breathing on its own, to thinking, to moving, to walking, to digesting food, to sleeping, to making your heart beat, to feeling/seeing/tasting/hearing/smelling... The incredible list is never-ending. It has so many jobs, but it’s function and purpose is to keep you alive and healthy, and it’s doing a perfect job. Focus on all the good things that your body does for you and all that it can do—don’t take any part of it for granted. Your body and its functions and abilities are a GIFT: APPRECIATE IT.
Lastly—your body is not your enemy. Don’t let the enemy (Satan or your own mind) feed you lies and distort your image of who you are and where you come from. Your life and body are a gift & a blessing: be thankful for it & cherish, accept, and nurture it.
*Screams from the mountaintop*
*Hugs you and tells you face to face*
*Makes you believe it*
You are worthy of accepting and loving your body. I believe in you. The time to start believing in yourself and nurturing what you have is now. Cheers to body confidence!
