Well. I am sad to have these words even come out of my mouth but we all know it's true.
School is starting.
Yes, I said it, and yes I am sorry...
But I have good news!! I am writing to you on how to make your back to school experience fashionable and fun!
And it is for all ages and style types!
What more could anyone want?
I did an awesome photo shootwith Katie Lockyear to feature my fashion looks. She is a great photographer who just released her own presets for lightroom. They are STUNNING! Her instagram is @ktlockyearphoto, so go give her some love! This post is also a collaboration with Ashton Dain, my fellow amazing blogger friend! She is covering her own style and accessory ideas, as well as hair styles. Her insta is @ashtonleighblog and her lookbook is linked to her name!

So for this collaboration, I am doing my own style and accessory ideas, as well as makeup ideas with back to school in mind. I will also post accessories and my favorite books for the year later, so be sure to subscribe at the bottom of my Blog home page to get updates on that!
Anyway, enjoy reading! I am excited to finally do a fashion post for you!
Outfit 1: Wildflower
This outfit embodies
-a free spirit
-happiness and joy
-being who you are

This is a great transition outfit from summer to fall. Yellow is for both seasons and the sweatshirt is great for when it gets cold inside! My sweatshirt is from Aerie, shorts are from Hollister, and my rings are from American Eagle. I paired it with Birkenstocks but any shoes you like will pretty much work with this.
Outfit 2: Frayed Florals
This outfit embodies
-being bold
-having confidence in yourself
-athletic yet comfy & cute style

I LOVE LOVE LOVE flower embroidery and florals in general... in case you couldn't tell already! That is why each of my outfits feature flowers. Choose your signature style accents and own them like the boss that you are! I also love this burgundy color for fall and the jean skirt, since it can be dressed up or down for your needs. The shirt is from Aerie, the skirt is from Garage, and you can't see my sandals, but they are brown and strappy and from Payless. I also threw on my Abella Eyewear sunglasses for a sassy edge. I know you have NEVER heard this before... but if you like them, use my code "carolinesblog30" for 30% off of your order!
Outfit 3: Cultivate Kindness
This outfit embodies
-a kind heart
-an easy going, sweet spirit
-simple & sweet style

Message tees are awesome. Find what you are passionate about and spread your positive messages this school year! But what I also love about this outfit is how it is more formal and less bold for my followers that like a simple style. It is also really cute to tuck in shirts now-a-days for a different approach or creative look with an outfit! My shirt and shorts are from Old Navy (y'all know I love Old Navy!!) and my shoes, which I really like because they are comfy AND cute, are from Payless.
Makeup:

For school I recommend going light on makeup so you don't have to worry about how it looks or touching it up during the day. Plus, makeup & stress from school are the perfect combination for unhappy and acne prone skin... Not what you want! If you have a desire to wear makeup, my go to's during the school year are a medicated concealer that works to correct as well as cover (such as the one by Well People), mascara (a great natural and long lasting mascara is the volumizing one by Elf), and Maybelline's Pro Matte Powder. To jazz it up, sometimes I throw on a little highlighter (my favorite is Laura Geller), NYX butter gloss, and Mary Kay's Cream Eye Color in Apricot. All of these mentioned products are linked below in my routine!
For this shoot, I am wearing heavier makeup. I have detailed my products and routine below! My makeup always tends to be very natural, matte, and blended, so keep that in mind as you read the routine. And remember: simple is better. Makeup is there to enhance your natural beauty, not change how you look!
Routine:
Step 1: Prime face with Benefit Poreless Primer. Easiest application is with cleansed and moisturized skin. Let it soak in.
Step 2: Wet and squeeze beauty blender under sink water to open the "pores" and make application much easier. Dry it on a towel after.
Step 3: Primer should be soaked in by now. My preference is to do my eyebrows with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Chocolate but you can do eyebrows whenever you like. Now is also the time to cover any bright red acne or big pimples with a little green concealer like the one from NYX. Foundation blurs out the green but green counteracts the redness and that is why I use it!
Step 4: Mix Makeup 4 Ever and Loreal Pro Matte foundation on the back of left hand. Gently dab your beauty blender in makeup and apply to face. I start on cheeks and build out and up. Don't forget to apply a little by your neck and jawline so you don't have a makeup line.
Step 5: Let foundation dry for a little bit before anything else.
Step 6: Apply skin colored concealer (I use Well People) on any other stand out pimples.
Step 7: Brush on some highlight, but not a ton, over the tops of your cheek bones and above eyebrows. Use the excess highlight on the brush for your nose, edge of chin, and cupids bow for an extra (but natural) glowy look.
Step 8: Smile naturally and apply some blush (I like Smashbox's. It is easily buildable and comes with 2 shades) onto apples of your cheeks. Use excess on brush to pull it up toward hairline. Putting blush mainly on the apples of your cheeks is much more natural looking than a straight line under your highlight.
Step 9: Rub pointer finger in Mary Kay Cream Eye Color and smear all over lid. Pull the excess above eyelid and onto brow bone for a natural glow and good blend. Dip finger in again, and apply to inner eye for a pop.
Step 10: Now that makeup has settled completely into your skin, look for places that need a little more definition. Take a light fan brush and bronze them. I use Elf's bronzer because it is great for beginners (It is my first time using bronzer!) and is really lightweight. I like to apply it around my jawline, hairline, and under my highlight line.
Step 11: I prefer to do my finishing/color powder before mascara, so it doesn't get stuck in it. I take a light powder brush and apply a little colored powder, such as the Fit Me Mattifying Powder by Maybelliene, over blemishes and any other spots that need more coverage. Then I use the same brush to apply a little NYX translucent loose finishing powder over everything to set it.
Step 12: Brush through eyelashes with an eyebrow comb or something like that. This is just to remove the whiteness from the powders and seperate any clumps. I used the Vouminous SuperStar Mascara by Loreal and the Worth the Hype Mascara by NYX for this shoot. I applied a light layer of the primer from the Loreal one and let it dry. Then I applied the mascara from the Loreal one with quite a few layers as desired. To "set" the look, I added some Worth The Hype mascara on top, and just a little on bottom. For bottom lashes I never dip the wand back in, I just use the excess from the upper lashes dip, that way it is not too heavy.
Step 13: Apply a little chapstick and lipstick of your choice. I prefer sticks not liquid because you can "smear" it on lightly and have it look much more natural. Then, you also don't have to apply it perfectly. It just blends in and isn't super bright. My current favorites are the red lippie stick by Loreal and the Maybelliene Magenta lipstick because they are buildable and very fun colors. Sometimes I will apply the NYX butter gloss in Apple Strudel on top.
Step 14: Hold NYX matte setting spray about 8-10 inches from face and spray front and both sides. If I really want it to last, I also use a few sprays of Elf's matte setting spray. On spots that still appear to be wet, you can use your beauty blender to lightly dab it in.
Step 15: As you go through your day, use Clean and Clear blotting sheets to keep the look fresh!
Thanks so much for reading this post! I hope you find my style and makeup tips helpful. Feel free to let me know how they work, what you liked best, and if you have any questions! Don't forget to check out Ashton's blog for more style tips and hairstyle ideas and Katie's insta for more photoshoot pics.
Good luck this school year!
